why do animals at high altitude have a high affinity of oxygen
Affinity means: "the degree to which a substance tends to combine with another"
There's less oxygen at higher altitudes so if their haemoglobin didn't have a high affinity for oxygen they wouldn't be able to survive in their habitat"
